JESSIE COLENA McKENZIE March 19, 1906 - August 8, 2000 After a brief illness, Jessie Colena (Lena) McKenzie passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 8, 2000 at the Charleswood Care Centre at the age of 94 years. Lena will be lovingly remembered by her sister Audrey Galbraith Bird; nephew David (Susan) Galbraith, of Sacramento, CA; nieces, Penny (John) Plantje of Sherwood Park, AB and Jaqueline (Ralph) Wigg of Calgary, AB. She was adored by her six great-nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her two brothers and their wives, Alex (Dick) and Myrtle McKenzie of Neepawa, Tom and Lea McKenzie of Calgary; her sister Reta Dixon; and three brothers-in-law, Jack Galbraith, (Dixie) Dixon and Dr. Roland Bird. Lena was born in Neepawa and taught school in various communities including Neepawa in order that she could take care of her mother. After her mother passed away, Lena moved to Winnipeg and taught at Norberry School in St. Vital for over 20 years. There will be a celebration of Lenas life on Saturday, August 12 at 11:00 a.m. in the Leatherdale Gardiner Funeral Chapel, 1501 Waverley St. Interment will be held on Sunday, August 13 at 2:00 p.m. in the family plot at the Riverside Cemetery in Neepawa. The Rev. Neil Strohschein will officiate on behalf of Knox Presbyterian Church, of which Lena was a longtime supporter. Friends are invited back to the church afterwards. The family wishes to thank the wonderful ladies from "We Care" and especially Shauna McGinnis for the music and joy she brought to Lenas late years.
