Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLEONARD MALCOLM SMITH Leonard Malcolm Smith, born Winnipeg, 1916 passed away August 7, 2000 in Kelowna, BC. Predeceased by his wife Ella in 1982 and by one sister and two brothers. Survived by his loving companion Merna Jory. A resident of Kelowna since late 1945 he was employed for 30 years in the building supply and forest products industries with Kelowna Sawmill, S.M. Simpson Ltd. and Crown Zellerbach. He was one of the originals involved in the introduction and development of the Bulk Harvesting Bin in the Okanagan Valley in 1957 and for 16 years prior to his retirement in 1978 was manager of sales and production for the Bins and Palet Division of S.M. Simpson Ltd. and Crown Zellerbach. A life member of the Royal Canadian Legion, he served five years with the RCAFC, after serving overseas from 1940 to 1943. He returned to Canada and was supply and transportation officer at various locations including Port Alberni, Williams Lake (Forest Polar Bear) and Prince Rupert. Funeral was held Thursday, August 10 at First Memorial Funeral Services at 2:00 p.m. In memory of Len, donations may be made to The Kelowna SPCA.
