GLORIA (DOLLY) JOY CLUBLEY Gloria (Dolly) Joy Clubley passed away peacefully at Sunnyside Manor, Birtle, on August 4, 2000. Dolly was born in Lunenberg, ON on August 9, 1923, second daughter of Alex and Ella (Helmar) McLeod. In 1924, the family returned to Solsgirth where her father became Postmaster; a position he held until 1956. Dolly received her education in Solsgirth and became Postmistress August 21, 1956. She married Lodge Menzie in 1951. Lodge died in 1964. In 1965, she married Morris Clubley and moved to Birtle. She continued as Postmistress in Solsgirth until her retirement in 1981. During her years in Solsgirth, she worked in the Co-op Store, was actively involved with the Curling Club, the ball team and the Community Hall. Friends will remember her time spent with seniors as well as taking an interest in young people. She epitomized the word "Community". After moving to Birtle, she continued to care for seniors, and spent hours knitting mitts for Family Services (Childrens Aid) and local children. She was a life member of the Birdtail Country Museum, and will be remembered for her generosity to many organizations, as well as her continued interest in sports. Dolly was predeceased by her husband Morris in 1987; by her parents; brother-in-law Murdo Brown and niece Debbie Brown. She is survived by her sister Sylvia Brown of Kelowna, BC, nephews, Larry and Stuart (Sandra) Brown and their family;, nieces, Linda (Lloyd) Jordan and family and Natalie (Chris) Cummings and baby. Also many McLeod and Helmar cousins. She will be fondly remembered by Lynne Ewbank (Clubley) of Calgary, Nelson Ewbank of Birtle, Arnold Bremner and Karen Halwas (Clubley) of Headingley and their families. Graveside service was held August 9 at the Birtle Cemetery with Rev. Dwight Rutherford officiating. If friends so desire, donations may be made to Sunnyside Manor, Birtle, or a charity of their choice. Raes Funeral Service of Shoal Lake were in care of arrangements.
