ANNA TOMCZAK (ANN TOMCHAK) (nee KRYSCHUK) It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother. After a long and courageous battle with cancer, Ann Tomchak passed away August 12, 2000, at Grace General Hospital. Ann will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her daughters Helen, Christine and her husband, Cameron Leary; sons Edward and his wife Arleigh (The Pas), and Ted. Anns pride and joy were her grandchildren, Delbert, Travis and Keith Leary; Wade, Whitney and Sarah Tomchak. She is survived by one sister, Katherine, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Mike, and her parents, John and Katherine in Poland, and infant grandson, Tyler. Ann was born in Hostow, Stanislawow, Poland on February 15, 1925. As a child she worked on the family farm and orchard until the Second World War interrupted her life and she went to Germany. There she met and married her husband and they moved to Canada in 1948. Ann lived in numerous locations throughout northern Manitoba during her husbands career with the Canadian National Railway. It was during these years that she proved to be a survivor by overcoming the many hardships of pioneering in northern Manitoba. In 1957, they moved to The Pas where she worked for a number of years at St. Anthonys General Hospital. They moved to Winnipeg in 1980 following her husbands retirement from the railway. Ann was a kind, selfless and gentle soul who was devoted to her husband, children and grandchildren. She took pride in hard work yet still found time to talk to friends and neighbours and volunteer at church functions. Ann had an amazing green thumb and spent countless hours tending to her flower and vegetable garden. A terrific cook and baker (her doughnuts were simply the best), she always made sure no one left her table hungry. Ann also loved dancing and often spoke of her many precious memories of happy times spent with her husband, family and friends. Moms determination and sense of humour will never be forgotten. Ann was a wonderful wife and mother and her passing leaves an emptiness that will never be filled. The family would like to express our sincere thanks to the staff at the Palliative Care Unit at the Grace General Hospital. Your support and care meant so much to all of us. Prayers will be on Tuesday, August 15 at 7:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 16 at 10:00 a.m. at St. John Cantius Roman Catholic Church, 846 Burrows Avenue, with Rev. Fr. Henryk Uczniak officiating. Interment will follow at Holy Ghost Cemetery, 4387 Main Street. Active Pallbearers will be Ted Tomchak, Wade Tomchak, Delbert, Travis and Keith Leary, and David Nikolychuk. You will always be in our hearts and we love you dearly.
