STEPHEN (STEVE) AUDETTE On Monday, August 14, 2000 at the St. Boniface Hospital, with his family and close friends at his bedside, Stephen Audette, our beloved father, grandfather, husband and friend, passed gently into the arms of Our Lord. Stephen is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Hilda; his daughter Sue Johannesson; his daughter-in-law Dee Welch and grandchildren Rebecca, Joshua and Kristjana (Reginald). He also leaves to mourn his passing his sister Mary Maydonik; brothers, Leo Odette (Pauline), Roy Audette (Jill) sister-in-law Lydia Seit; his extended family and friends. He was predeceased by his son Ronald in 1997. Stephen was born in 1919 and lived in Transcona all of his life. He worked for many years in the Canadian National Railway as a pipe fitter in the Transcona Shops. Retiring from the CNR, he followed his dream of becoming a full time firefighter, after many years as a volunteer both for the town and the CNR. Stephen remained a firefighter until his retirement in 1984. He was a strong believer in family and supported his wife and children in all their triumphs and failures, always there to offer encouragement. Although he loved sports of all kinds, his favourite was baseball. In his time he proved to be a skilled baseball player, playing on many teams for the Transcona area. He was an active member of the Blessed Sacrament Parish for many years, serving on the first Pastoral Council. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and in recent years, a member of the Royal Canadian Legion. His absolute joy in life was his property at the lake. He loved "puttering" about, keeping everything shipshape. Many, many pleasant evenings were spent there, enjoying the rustic outdoors and playing cards with family and friends. The family wish to extend their sincere thanks to the staff of the St. Boniface Hospital Ward 7A. Your dedication and kindness were very much appreciated. A Prayer Vigil will be held on Wednesday evening August 16 at 7:00 p.m. at the Blessed Sacrament Parish, 725 Rosseau Avenue West. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, August 17 at 11:00 a.m. also at the church with Father Lucien Roy officiating. Private family interment to follow at Transcona Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, if friends so wish memorial donations may be made to the Childrens Wish Foundation, Lower Level, 350 St. Mary Avenue, Winnipeg or to the Firefighter Burn Fund Inc., 202-666 St. James St., Winnipeg. Transcona Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements.
