WILLIAM T. (BILL) JOHNSTON With great sadness we announce the death of Bill Johnston on August 12, 2000 in Nanaimo Regional General Hospital in Nanaimo, BC. Loving husband of Gwen with whom he was celebrating 60 years of marriage this month. Survived by his daughters, Beth (Symes), Susan (Cooper) and Catharine and his grandchildren, Amy, Kate, David, and Karen of Toronto; his nieces and nephew Jack Brown (Winnipeg), Margaret Thornson (Fort Wayne), Sharon Young (Calgary) and Wendy Ellison (Toronto). Born in Winnipeg, Bill flew as an observer with RCAF in Europe during the Second World War, and worked for 40 years with Canada Packers Ltd. in Brandon, Sioux Lookout, Fort Frances and Winnipeg. He retired to paradise in Nanoose Bay, BC in 1980 to take up other challenges like building a new house, golf, and gardening. He has been active in the John Black United Memorial Church, in the Power Squadron of Nanoose Bay and the Nanoose Bay Library. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, August 16 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Marys Church at 2600 Powder Point Rd. in Nanoose Bay, reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, a remembrance to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.
