DONALD (SHORTY) MARSHALL SPILLETT After a brief battle with cancer, Don passed away peacefully, with his family by his side on, Sunday, August 13, 2000. He leaves to mourn his passing Helen, his loving wife of 51 years, and his two daughters, Nancy Ashcroft (Adrian) and Lynn Jones (Barry) grandchildren, Bronwyn Ashcroft, Marshall and Bryce Jones, as well as numerous relatives and many wonderful friends. Don was born on August 20, 1926 on Arnold Avenue in south Fort Rouge. He worked at the C.N. Shops, first in Fort Rouge and later in Transcona, for 40 years, retiring in 1983. His family always came first and then his love for golf. Many wonderful weekends were spent at Windsor Park Golf Course, the 12th hole was a particular favourite. Don was a member of Fort Rouge Legion Branch #97, Transcona Golf Course, Kingswood Golf Dome and the PBX Short Game. He made friends wherever he spent his time. Don was a very special Dad to his girls, spending countless hours teaching us to catch and hit a baseball, learning to ride a bike, drive a car, play golf, etc. When we grew up, he spent special time with each of his grandchildren. We will all miss him terribly. We would like to thank Dr. Manishen, Dr. Lezack and Dr. Maceachern for their care of Dad over the last few years, and also the wonderful staff on 3E at Riverview for their care and concern for all of us during Dads last few days. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, August 18 at 11:00 a.m. at Leatherdale Gardiner Funeral Chapel, 1501 Waverley Street. In lieu of flowers, donations to CancerCare Manitoba (Liver Research), P.O. Box 2248, Winnipeg, Man., R3C 4A6 would be very much appreciated. REST IN PEACE, DAD LEATHERDALE GARDINER 1501 Waverley Street 949-4860
