PETER (DON) LOWE On August 16, 2000 at the age of 79 years, after a recent fight with cancer, Don passed away. He leaves to mourn his loving wife and life companion of 57 years, Margaret; two sons and their families, Ken, wife Cobie and their two sons, Michael and Mark of Spruce Grove, AB, and Brian, wife Mabel and their daughter Christie and her fiance Brad of Winnipeg. Don was born in Winkler on April 5, 1921, to parents Jacob and Margaret Loewen, the youngest of six children. Don was predeceased by his parents and brothers and sisters, Ben, Herb, Margaret, Kathleen (Kay) and Loretta. In 1934 the family moved to Gretna where Don finished his schooling. Just after the Second World War broke out, he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Engineers and later transferred into the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps. He served overseas in England (where he met and married Margaret), then in France, Holland, Belgium and Germany. On return to Canada in 1945, he worked in the painting and decorating business, until 1948 when he joined the Winnipeg Police Department, retiring after almost 31 years of service. After a brief rest, he went to work at the Scotia Bank, Main Branch as Chauffeur/Messenger. In 1980, a triple bypass gave him a new lease on life, so he went to work for Vital Transit driving a school bus, until he turned 65. In 1995, Don and Margaret sold the house and moved into Bethel Place, for which they were truly thankful. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 19 at 2:00 p.m. in the Leatherdale Gardiner Funeral Chapel, 1501 Waverley St. Margaret and family would like to thank Dr. Marr and his wonderful nurses and support staff at Riverview Health Centre (3 East), our own Dr. Lu and the VON nurses Norma and Nancy. We also give our heartfelt thanks to our friends and neighbours at Bethel Place for their cards, food, thoughts, prayers and encouragement during this most difficult time. We appreciate all of you. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation, 100 Olivia St., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9; Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 301-352 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3B 2H8; or to the Riverview Health Centre Foundation, 1 Morley Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3L 2P4, would be greatly appreciated. His weary hours and days of pain His troubled nights have passed And in our aching hearts we know he has found sweet rest at last. LEATHERDALE GARDINER 1501 Waverley Street 949-4860
