GUDRUN UNA BJARNASON Peacefully, on Thursday, August 17, 2000, Gudrun Una Bjarnason (nee Johnson) passed away at Betel Gimli surrounded by loved ones. She was met in heaven by her loving husband Halldor Stefan Bjarnason, and infant son Harvey James; her daughter-in-law Sandra Bjarnason; sisters, Gudny Mathews, Toby Johnson, Joa Finnson, Joan Van Ruiten and brother Alli Johnson. She leaves to mourn her son Bud; daughter Shirley (Leigh) Syms, grandchildren, Greg (Stacy) Bjarnason, Susan Bjarnason (Ken Weis), Signy Syms, Deirdre (Arman) Tesoro and Jonathan Syms; great-grandchildren, Sarah and Bligh Bjarnason; brothers-in-law Ben Van Ruiten (Arlene), Tom Bjarnason; sisters-in-law Sola McNeil, Lara Morris, Dilla Sallows, Theresa Bjarnson and Lovisa Johnson and many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. Gudrun Una Bjarnason was born in Gimli on April 10, 1914 to Johannes and Bothildur Johnson. She married Halldor Bjarnason in 1937 and raised two children, Halldor Jon (Bud) and Shirley Una. She was an active member of the First Lutheran Church, participating in the Womens Auxilliary (FLCW) for many years. She was an extraordinary wife, mother, amma and langamma, and she will be dearly missed by all who love her. A service in celebration of Unas life will be held Monday, August 21 at 2:00 p.m. at First Lutheran Church, 580 Victor Street. Our most heartfelt appreciation to the nurses and staff at Betel Gimli for the wonderful care they provided.
