WILLIAM (BILL) ZASITKO With profound sadness, the family announces the passing of their dearly beloved husband, father, father-in-law and gigi, after a courageous battle with cancer. Surrounded by those he loved and those who loved him, we said goodbye on Thursday, August 17, 2000. Celebrating his life are his devoted wife of 50 years on October 21, 2000, and best friend Mary; proud children, daughters, Marge Johnson (Leif), Gloria; and son Randy (Kristin) and his cherished grandchildren, Greg Johnson and Holly (Dave Lowen). Bill was born in Poplarfield, MB on February 1, 1925 to Panko and Mary (Klowak) precious brother to Ann (Walter Ladohowski), Helen (Bill Horodecki), Lovey (Bill Glitnak), Theresa (Norman Beckman), and Steve. He was also considered as "quite a guy" by numerous nieces and nephews. What a role model as husband, father, father-in-law, gigi, brother, brother-in-law, uncle and friend. Dad shared a bit of himself with everyone he met, his cheery disposition, generously peppered with laughter, always bolstered positive attitudes toward life. Throughout his lifetime, Bill participated in many diverse livelihoods, ranging from farmer and grocer to hotelier in various rural Manitoba communities. His success in all endeavours was evident in the flourishing of his businesses, family and friendships. Upon retirement, Bill and Mary settled in Winnipeg where many pleasurable days were spent entertaining friends and family and participating in a variety of activities; from gardening, playing cards, completing puzzles and picking berries, to being "Mr. Fix-it". His greatest enjoyment was life itself as it afforded him contact with others which most times resulted in "becoming a favourite" to all. Truly a legacy to be envied! Many thanks to Dr. Schellenberg for his care and support throughout the years, as well as Dr. Mulder. Our appreciation to the staff of the Palliative Care Unit at Grace Hospital for their compassionate and loving care. Funeral services will take place on Monday, August 21, 2000 at 12:30 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., with Fr. Isador officiating. Viewing will take place one-half hour prior to the service. Pallbearers will be his nephews, Len Horodecki, Ken Glitnak, Daniel Torbiak, Ron Ledohowski, Kyle Beckman; and only grandson Greg Johnson. Following interment, family and friends are invited to a luncheon at the Chapel Lawn Reception Centre. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 100 Olivia St., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9 or to the Palliative Care Unit at Grace Hospital. Mary wishes to thank her neighbours for their acts of kindness, which allowed her more priceless time with her beloved Bill. "See you later, Mr. Bill" God looked upon His garden And found an empty space, Then He looked down upon the Earth And saw your tired face. He put his arms around you And lifted you to rest, Gods garden must be beautiful For He only takes the best. God saw the road was getting rough And the hills were hard to climb, He closed your weary eyes And whispered, "Peace to Thine". A golden heart stopped beating Working hands to rest, God broke our hearts to prove to us He only takes the best. It broke our hearts to lose you But you did not go alone, For part of us went with you To Gods garden, your new home.
