Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLOIS DOROTHY JOSLING On Saturday, August 19, 2000 at the Portage District General Hospital, Dorothy Josling, longtime resident of Portage, passed peacefully away. Dorothy was born in Winnipeg, MB - the eldest daughter of Archie and Lillian Josling. She was raised in Gladstone and Argyle, MB receiving her elementary education in Argyle and her senior matriculation from Portage Collegiate. Dorothy then entered St. Boniface Hospital (Winnipeg) School of Nursing, but for personal reasons, had to leave the program before graduation. She returned to Portage and worked at the former Southport Air Force Base and Garland and Wilsons Jewellers for several years. She then secured a position with Canada Manpower where she worked until her retirement. After her retirement, she remained actively involved in community affairs up until the time of her death. Dorothy loved sports, and was an avid golfer in her early years, and for many years a great supporter of the Portage Terriers Hockey Team. She was a longtime member of St. Johns Parish Catholic Womens League and a lifetime member of the Order of the Royal Purple - serving as Honored Royal Lady and later as District Deputy as well as several other positions in the Lodge. She was predeceased by her parents. She leaves to mourn her beloved niece Dorothy-Lynne Gazankas and husband Gary of Red Lake, ON; her great-nieces, Debra Geary (Kevin) of Red Lake, Marnie Cleary (Jody) of Burnaby, BC; and great-nephew Gary Victor Gazankas (Lidia) of Sault Ste. Marie, ON and three great-great-nieces, Cassidy Cleary, Seanna Geary and Taryn Gazankas. She is also survived by her sister Rudy Kennedy (Frank) of Red Lake; and her nephew Dwyre Kennedy of Big Springs, Texas and children, Lalena and Daniel Kennedy. A Prayer Vigil will be held on Tuesday evening, August 22 at 7:00 p.m. from McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated by the Rev. Fr. Wayne Morrissey on Wednesday, August 23 at 11:00 a.m. at the St. Johns Roman Catholic Church, of Portage. Private family interment is to follow at Hillside Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, if friends so wish, donations may be made in Dorothys memory to The Good Shepherd Parish Building Fund, 115 Countess Ave., Portage la Prairie, MB R1N 0T2 or the Childrens Wish Foundation of Canada, P.O. Box 1106, Portage la Prairie, MB R1N 3C5. A tree will be planted and cared for in memory of Dorothy at Evergreen Memorial Gardens by McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel who are entrusted with the arrangements.
