Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDOROTHY BINDER (NEE KULBERG) Peacefully on Sunday, August 20, 2000, at the age of 94, our dear mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend Dorothy Binder passed away. Dorothy was born in Winnipeg on August 16, 1906, and then spent most of her youth in Roblin, Manitoba where her parents owned a store. She and her three siblings were all musically talented, and there, they formed a band in which she was a drummer. In her late teens, Dorothy went to secretarial school in Minnesota and upon completion, she returned to Winnipeg where she met her future husband Harry Binder. In 1941 the couple moved to Rainy River, Ontario where they owned the general store along with Dorothys sister and brother-in-law. Suddenly in 1945, Harry passed away, and Dorothy was a young widow who continued to work very hard to raise their two sons. Those who knew Dorothy recall with fondness, the delicious meals she used to cook for the family, her passion for sports, her sense of humour, her typing of university student essays, her meticulous attention to her appearance as well as her love and enjoyment of her five grandchildren. In fact, Dorothy was an exceptional grandmother -- one who asked for nothing, yet took pleasure in observing, sharing and understanding the life experience of the grandchild just as it was. Her positive influence in this regard is immense and profound. She was predeceased by her husband, Harry, her brother, Reuben Kulberg, and her sister Gertie Silvert. She is survived by her sister Esther Binder, her sons and daughters-in-law; Bernard and Beverly Binder and Marvin and Francine Binder, her grandchildren; Marla (Rob) and Hartley in Winnipeg, and on the west coast; Harley, Alyssa and Elliot. Also mourning Dorothys passing is her friend and caring companion, Bernadette as well as many close and loving nieces, nephews and cousins. Shiva is being observed at 118 Bard Blvd.
