Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJEAN BANCROFT (nee PIKE) On August 23, 2000, Jean Bancroft (Pike), aged 89, died peacefully in her sleep at her residence. Jean was born in Winnipeg on December 30, 1910. She received all her schooling, and lived most of her life, in Winnipeg. After working in estate planning for several years, she married Fred Bancroft in 1935. They moved to Saskatoon, where their two children Jane and Michael were born. Jean was predeceased by her loving husband Fred in 1989, her daughter Jane in 1999, her brother Clifford and her sister Lenore. Surviving her are her son and daughter-in-law Michael and Joan, currently in Saskatoon; two grandchildren, Catherine and David (and fiance Michelle Moir) of London, ON; one brother Charles (Ruth) in Vernon, BC; two sisters, Norma of Vancouver, BC, and Thelma of Independence, MO; sisters-in-law, Effie Pike of Winnipeg, Eileen Bancroft in Regina and Dorothy Gaudreau in Montreal; special cousins, Lettie (Ernie Taylor) and many nieces and nephews. Jean was devoted to her family and her church, and was loved and respected by all who knew her. She was heavily involved in St. Aidans Anglican Church for close to 60 years; in the choir, as a part-time organist, as leader of the Junior Auxiliary youth program, in the Womens Auxiliary, leader of the Prayer Group, and recently as a regular contributor to the St. Aidans periodical "Window". She finished typing an article the day before she died. In the last 30 years, she was an avid birdwatcher in the Winnipeg and Lake Winnipeg area. She was a member of the Manitoba Naturalist History Society and Saskatchewan Natural History Society and published over 100 articles on bird behaviour. She received several local and Western Canadian honours for her research and articles. Cremation has taken place, and a memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at St. Aidans Anglican Church, Campbell Street and Kingsway Avenue, on Saturday, August 26 at 2:00 p.m., with reception to follow at the church. The Rev. Canon M. B. Henderson will officiate. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to St. Aidans Endowment Fund.
