KATERYNA BONDARCHUK It is with profound sadness the family of Kateryna Bondarchuk announces her untimely passing on Tuesday, August 22, 2000. Mourning this tremendous loss is her beloved husband of 55 years Ambrozij; daughter Oksana, son-in-law John Petryshyn; grandchildren Tayisa and Yarko; son Victor as well as her brother Hryhorij Kurdziaba (Olha), children Valia and Vasyl in Ukraine. Kateryna was born December 11, 1926 in the city of Shatsk, rayon Lioubomil, oblast Volyn, Ukraine to Maria and Phillip Kurdziaba. In 1944, at the age of 16, she was taken as a forced labourer to German. There she met her lifes true partner, Ambroze whom she married in 1946. They arrived in Canada in 1950. She always considered herself fortunate to have chosen Canada as her second motherland. Kateryna devoted her life entirely to the well-being of her family. She nurtured and instilled a love for Ukrainian culture, traditions and language; strong faith in the Ukrainian Orthodox church and an unwavering belief in the ultimate independence of Ukraine. She was very proud of Tayisa and Yarko who were her gems which she so selflessly and whole-heartedly cultivated. Kateryna was a beautiful, gentle woman whose presence exuded warmth, love, trust and compassion. The loss of our wife, mother and grandmother is beyond what words can articulate. Panahyda will be sung 7:00 p.m. Sunday, August 27, with viewing starting at 6:00 p.m. at Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral of St. Mary the Protectress, Burrows and Sinclair. Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 28 also at the cathedral, with Very Rev. M. Skrumeda, Rt. Rev. W. Sluzar, Rt. Rev. S. Kiciuk and Rev. A. Harkavyi officiating. Interment to follow in Glen Eden Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Holy Family Nursing Home, or Children of Chornobyl. VICHNAYA PAMYAT KORBAN FUNERAL CHAPEL 956-2193
