DANIEL SMID "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints." Psalm 116:15 On Wednesday, August 23, 2000, at Health Sciences Centre, Daniel Smid passed away very peacefully at the age of 85 years. He was born July 23, 1915 to Fokke and Aukje Smid, second youngest of nine children in Donkerbroek, Friesland, The Netherlands. In due time their family grew to six children. He was employed by the Canadian National Railway until his retirement in 1980. He enjoyed visiting his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren very much. Gardening, reading and writing letters gave him a great deal of satisfaction. He had a great sense of humour and always was able to captivate his audience with many stories from his lifes experience. Daniel was predeceased by his wife Sylvia Smid in 1994. He leaves to cherish his memory three sons, Frank (Susan), John (Louise), Sydney (Tami) three daughters, Anne (Egbert) Breukelman, Audrey (Lloyd) Den Boer and Sylvia (Henry) Kloosterhuis; 20 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers in the Netherlands; sisters-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews.
