Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJACK OSTROW 1925 - 2000 Jack passed away after a brief illness on July 19, 2000 at the St. Boniface Hospital. He is survived by his loving wife Mary; daughter Lynne; son Joel; daughter-in-law Henryka; grandchildren, Samantha, Joshua, Raphael, Marlo and nieces and nephews. Born in Winnipeg on February 24, 1920, Jack completed his elementary and secondary education in Winnipeg, graduating from St. Johns High School. At 20 years of age Jack joined the R.C.A.F. as a pilot and flew many missions during the Second World War. After the war, Jack spent a short time in Ottawa where he met and married his wife Mary. Upon his return to Winnipeg with Mary, he was employed in the following positions prior to becoming his own boss: Manager of the Roxy Theatre on Henderson Highway, bus driver and street car driver with Winnipeg Transit and as a Pharmaceutical Salesman with Ayerst McKenna & Harrison. In 1960 for the next 20 years, along with the assistance of his wife Mary, Jack owned and operated Imperial Hardware Wholesale Limited until their retirement in 1980. During their retirement Jack and Mary were fortunate to have taken many wonderful holidays. Family dinners were always extra special occasions. Jacks special love and talent for the piano always provided much joy and entertainment to our evenings as friends and family raised their voices in song and laughter. Many thanks to all the wonderful staff of the Palliative Care Unit at the St. Boniface Hospital, especially Dr. Fiona Crow. A graveside service was held at the Rosh Pina Memorial Park on July 21 with Rabbi Allen Green officiating. Pallbearers were Earl Pitch, Frank Zipursky, Garry Harrison, David Topper, Bill Raiche and Sam Raiche.

My thoughts and prayers are with Mr. and Mrs. Ostrow. I remember walking into their discount store and having nice conversations with them. - Posted by: Philip (Works for my Special Olympics bocce coach at his Italian restaurant) on: Oct 28, 2021
