Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryRENE VAN RAES My dear husband Rene passed away Thursday, August 24, 2000, after a few years of failing health. Rene is survived by his wife and friend Dorothy, of over 31 years; Dorothys son Wayne Tardiff (Nancy) his sons, Denis and Robert; daughter Yvonne; also surviving is his brother Emile (Floris) sisters, Cecile Hermary, Marie-Paule LaPlume and Louise Collins (Frank) numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a beloved uncle to his nieces and nephews. Rene was predeceased by daughter Suzanne. Born Rene Arthur Joseph Van Raes in St. Boniface, January 23, 1926, to Jean Van Raes and Josephine Dandurand. He grew up in St. Vital, St. Boniface and in 1974, he moved to East Kildonan. Rene joined the Fire Department in 1948, retiring as Captain in 1984 after 35 years service. Prior to 1948, Rene spent a brief time in the Army and working at CNR Shops. Rene and Dorothy enjoyed their retirement years relaxing and working around their home, some travelling and special times with his brother Emile at Star Lake. Their home was a very welcome place for family and friends. Rene was an active member of The Royal Canadian Legion #107, serving as Vice President, and a lifelong member of the Belgian Club. Memorial service will be held on Tuesday, August 29, at 2:00 p.m. at Green Acres Funeral Chapel, Hwy. #1 East at Navin Road. Interment will follow in Green Acres Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made in Renes memory to the Canadian Cancer Society, Manitoba Division, 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, Man., R3C 2B7.
