MARY "MAISIE" BAIN It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our dear mother, Maisie Bain, age 78, who passed away peacefully at home on August 26, 2000. She will be forever sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her son Donald and daughter-in-law Marilyn (and her family in Edmonton). Maisie also leaves to mourn her passing her sister Georgia; her nephews, George and Alan and numerous cousins in Scotland, Australia and Canada. She was predeceased by her husband Frank in 1997, her mother in 1998 and her father in 1967. Mary, or Maisie as she was known to all, was born in 1921 in Leith, Edinburgh, Scotland, the oldest of two daughters to Danny and Aggie Mills. She served with great distinction and honour in the Royal Air Force during the Second World War being named in dispatches on more than one occasion. After the war, she immigrated to Canada, settling with her husband in Winnipeg. Her mother, father and sister all followed shortly thereafter. Along with her mother, Maisie was active in the Scottish Womens Club in the early 1950s. She worked in retail sales, spending many years at The Bay and at Maude Chapmans Boutique. Always fond of anything reminiscent of Scotland, Maisie enjoyed visiting the Pavillion of Scotland during Folklarama and attending concerts and events that reminded her of home. A memorial service and celebration of her life will take place on Tuesday, August 29, at 2:00 p.m. in the Leatherdale Gardiner Funeral Chapel, 1501 Waverley St. The family would like to express its thanks to Dr. David Mymin, Dr. John Embil, Dr. Tim McCarthy, Dr. Hank Fong and Dr. Jack Rusen for their dedicated care. If friends so desire, donations made be made in Maisies memory to the Salvation Army, Community Relations & Development Services, 400 - 500 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, Man., R3C 3X1.
