SISTER LUCILLE MORIN, Fille de la Croix (Soeur Claire St-Laurent) December 9, 1905 - August 26, 2000 On Saturday, August 26, 2000, following a lengthy illness, Sister Lucille Morin (Soeur Claire St-Laurent), passed away peacefully at the Provincial House of Les Filles de la Croix, at 66 Moore Avenue. She was 94 years old and was completing that very day, 73 years of Religious Life. Sister was pre-deceased by her parents, Laurent and Pamela; seven brothers: Paul, Jean-Louis (Marguerite Poliquin +), Andre (Antonia Gagnon +), Marcel, Augustin (Edesse Gauthier +), Charles (Doris Gregson), Paul; and five sisters: Catherine, Laurence (Armand Lauzon +), Aline, Annette, Jeanne. She leaves to mourn her passing, one brother, Francois (Yvette Lemieux) and four sisters: Claire, fdlc, Reine, Bernadette, fdlc, Madeleine fdlc; as well as many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Sister Lucille was gifted with a superior intelligence. Always the consummate intellectual, she was rarely seen without at least one book in hand and was lovingly referred to as a "walking encyclopedia". A teacher by profession, Sister Lucille Morin consecrated forty-two years of her life to imparting her vast store of knowledge, her love for books, and her insatiable lust for learning to many High School students in Manitoba and Saskatchewan. During those years, Sister also served her Religious Congregation as Provincial Bursar for twelve years. After she retired from teaching, in 1971, she spent the remaining twenty-three years of her active life as Librarian at our Provincial House. Diagnosed with Alzheimers disease in 1994, her mind and body fell victim to the gradual ravages of this debilitating illness. She faced its challenges with admirable courage and faith. Those of us who knew her well and loved her dearly, will remember her as a woman who lived her life among us with great simplicity, in authentic humility, displaying a kind and loving heart and always ready to roll up her sleeves and take an active part in communal tasks and activities. She loved listening to music and singing, she laughed easily, especially at her own limitations, and she rarely passed up an opportunity to join in a good game of Canasta. These words from the Book of the Prophet Micah provide a fitting summary of her life, "You have already been told what is right and God wants of you. Only this, to do what is right, to love goodness and justice and to walk humbly with your God." (Mi. 6:8). Sister Lucille will be greatly missed by her family, particularly her three sisters who lived with her at the Provincial House, as well as by the other members of Les Filles de la Croix, a great many of whom were her students at one time or another. Les Filles de la Croix wish to express their heartfelt thanks to the Infirmary Staff and to the Home Care Staff for their loving and dedicated care of our Sister during her long illness. Prayers for Sister Lucille Morin will be held on Tuesday, August 29 at 7:30 p.m at the Provincial House of Les Filles de la Croix, 66 Moore Avenue, Winnipeg. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 30 at 10:30 a.m. at the Provincial House. Interment in St. Adolphe, Manitoba will follow.
