Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryE. RICHARD SLIPETZ Suddenly and unexpectedly on Thursday, August 24, 2000, Richard Slipetz passed away at Pitlochry, Scotland at the age of 62. Richard was born in Winnipeg on April 17, 1938. In his youth, he studied violin, provided the piano accompaniment for his sister and other violin students in music festivals and played the double bass in small orchestral ensembles. He was educated in Seven Oaks and St. Pauls College. He joined his fathers business, "City Tire Service", and subsequently developed a career in the insurance field with his own agency "South Glen Insurance" in St. Vital. He retired at age 56 and spent the last six years golfing and travelling. His long abiding interest and faith was centered at the St. Johns Anglican Cathedral Parish where he was a member for the last 40 years. He served on the vestry, was a lay administrant and reader as well as the peoples warden. He was also a Mason, and became a member of Prince Rupert Lodge No. 1, AF&AM in 1980. He was Master of that lodge in 1986. In 1994 he affiliated with Three Pillars Lodge No. 169 AF&AM and was past secretary. He had a deep sense of integrity and honesty and a quiet pride in those he loved. He had an extensive knowledge and love of nature. He was a man of precise details and retained facts accurately and easily. He thoroughly investigated his projects and journeys and knew exactly where he ought to be at the end of each day. He completed his many projects successfully, but only when "their time had come", and each in their own turn. He would not be hurried! His latest source of pleasure was derived from living at "Country Villas" where he thoroughly enjoyed the companionship of his many neighbours. Among many, our most treasured memories will include fishing for goldeye, the dog show circuit, sleeping in an overcrowded car the night before opening day of Walt Disney World, the Rhine, Italian and Mediterranean journey in a Volkswagen camper, the self-guided back-packing trip to New Zealand and East Asia, the winters spent south in the 5th wheel, and the current theatre / cathedral trip in the UK with friends. He was predeceased by his sister Marilyn and his father Eugene Slipetz. Mourning his loss are his mother Jeanette (Jay) his wife Willy; son Byron; daughter Deborah and Yves Boie, and two grandchildren, Camille and Francis and many relatives and friends. Funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Friday, September 1 at St. Johns Cathedral, 135 Anderson Ave. Memorial contributions may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 301-352 Donald St. R3C 2H8, the Canadian Diabetes Association, 102-310 Broadway R3C 0S6, or to the St. Johns Cathedral Organ Fund.
