She died unexpectedly but peacefully August 27, 2000 in Vancouver, BC at the age of 90. She was the fourth of 11 children of Fritz (Fred) and Maria Klimpke (nee Schendel) who were born in Germany, lived in Wisconsin and Michigan respectively, and came to Saskatchewan separately in 1900 as homesteaders in the southern Assiniboia area. The family moved to Winnipeg when Louise was two. She joined the workforce after grade seven and at 19 started a career in hairdressing. Louise owned her own business from 1930 until 1963, when she sold it following the death of her husband Herbert. She subsequently lived in Chilliwack, BC and Calgary, AB but spent most of her retirement in Abbotsford, BC before moving to the German Canadian Care Home in Vancouver in 1997. Louise is survived by her sons, Murray and Richard (Marie Schneider) sisters, Magdalena "Lanie" Neetz and Martha Slater; brothers, Carl (Minnie), Walter (Grace), Edward (Elsie) and John (Sophie). She was predeceased by sister Ann Stadelmeier; and brothers, William (Bertha), Gerhard "Chick", and Fred (Olive). Louise was a devoted wife and mother, beloved relative to dozens of family members of all ages, valued friend to countless people and a successful independent business woman. Her rare combination of strength, determination, faith, kindness and humour will be greatly missed even as it shows the way for the loved ones left behind. A memorial service will be held Friday, September 1, 1:00 p.m. at St. Marks Lutheran Church, 1573 East 18th Avenue at Fleming, Vancouver. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the German Canadian Benevolent Society, 2010 Harrison Dr., Vancouver, BC V5P 2P6.
