MYRTLE ROSE SMITH 1926 - 2000 On August 30, 2000 at the Riverview Health Centre, Myrtle Smith, beloved wife of the late Jack Smith, passed away peacefully with her family by her side. Myrtle was predeceased by her mother Martha, father William and brother Henry. She leaves to cherish her memory son Ken, daughter-in-law Heather; grandchildren Jen, Jason and Michele; daughter Karen Hanson, son-in-law Royce; grandchildren Stephanie, Laura and Alissa; daughter Donna Baxter, son-in-law Alan; grandchildren Kerri and Scott. She is also survived by three sisters, Francis Popovich of Winnipeg, Margaret Ferguson of Dugald, Florence Laurin of Kanata, Ontario and their families. Myrtle was born in the Boulton Municipality of the Russell area. She was employed by the Eatons Mail Order Company and later by Woolworths on Portage Avenue. She married Jack Smith in 1951 and they resided in Transcona for the rest of their lives. Mom loved to work with children and taught Sunday School at Transcona Memorial United Church. She enjoyed gardening and baseball, however her children and grandchildren were what she loved most. The family wish to express their sincere thanks to the staff and doctors at the St. Boniface Hospital and Riverview Health Centre. Prayers will be held on Friday, September 1, at 7:00 p.m. at the Transcona Funeral Chapel, 1800 Day St. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 2 at 10:00 a.m. at the Transcona Memorial United Church, 209 Yale Avenue West with Rev. Jeff Cook and Rev. Carol Fletcher officiating. Interment will follow on Tuesday, September 5 at 10:00 a.m. at the family plot at Transcona Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society (Manitoba Division) or to the Transcona Memorial United Church General Fund. Transcona Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements.
