BARBARA GRACE JAMES Barbara James, beloved wife of the late Jimmy James, passed away peacefully August 29, at age 79. Barbara was born in Brandon, MB on April 4, 1921. Her first husband, Douglas Joy, was a squadron leader with the R.C.A.F. during the Second World War and was killed in action in the Ceylon campaign in May, 1945. Barbara married Jimmy James, a coworker at the Bank of Toronto, in 1950. They lived together in Winnipeg, Calgary, The Pas, and were among the first of 35 families to settle in Thompson in 1958. During their retirement they enjoyed spending their winters in south Texas and Florida. She was predeceased by her husband in 1983. The enjoyment of her latter years revolved around visiting her daughter and four grand-children. Barbara is survived by her daughter, Barbara Bracken (Bruce of Cincinnati, Ohio) grandsons, Richard Bracken of Washington, D.C., Tim Bracken (Michelle) of Cincinnati; and granddaughters Barbara Hankin (Jim) of Modesto, California, and Jennifer Bracken of Cincinnati. Great-grandchildren include: Holly, David and Jack Hankin. Many thanks to the staff and management of Calvary Place Convalescent Home where she has resided since February, 2000. Their kindness, compassion and professionalism was outstanding. Through the volunteers, nurses, and staff she was treated with such respect and dignity, making her final months happy ones. Cremation has taken place, and a private graveside service will take place at a later date at her request.
