TINA REDEKOP 1924 - 2000 It is with great sadness and regret that we announce the sudden passing of Tina Redekop, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, in Niverville on Thursday, August 31 at the age of 75 years. She was born September 24, 1924 in Nieder Chortiz, Ukraine, daughter of Johann and Tina Redekopp. She lost her parents at an early age and endured many hardships during the Second World War. She spent four years in refugee camps in Germany, Austria and Holland before immigrating to Canada with her brother in 1947 with the help of the MCC and sponsor David Redekop Sr. In 1950 she married Wilhelm Redekop, a widower with seven children. Together, she and Wilhelm had four more children. They farmed with their family near Niverville until 1974 when they retired. Mom was a kind and hospitable person whose door was open to everyone. She enjoyed gardening and was happy to share her harvest with anyone who dropped by. There are many who will remember her wonderful cooking and baking. She also enjoyed her time at the cottage, fishing, picking berries, walking and visiting with friends. Volunteering at the MCC Thrift Store was an enjoyable task for her. Her strong Christian faith gave her energy and enthusiasm for life. She leaves to mourn her family, Jake (Marge), David (Margaret), William (Roselyn), Henry (Edith), Helen (Wesley Plett), Aaron (Donna), Victor (Karen), Margaret (David Dawes), Hilda (Stew Cherry), Peter (Darcy) and Linda (Jess Leung). She also leaves 21 grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; her sister Maria Seitgaliwa in Karaganda, Russia; brother-in-law, Aaron Redekop in Texas; sister-in-law Christina Redekop in Ontario and their families, as well as numerous cousins in Abbotsford, BC. She will also be missed by her many special friends. She was predeceased by her husband Wilhelm in 1994; her brother John; two granddaughters and two brothers-in-law, David and Peter Redekop and sister-in-law Tina Redekop. Funeral service will be held on Monday, September 4 at 2:00 p.m. at Elim Mennonite Church, 85-2nd St., S., Niverville, MB. Viewing will be at the church one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mennonite Central Committee, 134 Plaza Dr., Winnipeg, MB R3T 5K9. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. Psalm 23:6 Arrangements entrusted to Klassen Funeral Chapel 338-0331.
