Jake started up and ran his own business, Derksen Appliance, located in North Kildonan, opening a second store in Selkirk years later. He had a love of the outdoors and particularly enjoyed fishing, boating and snowmobiling. Upon his retirement in 1987, the cottage/home at Gull Lake became a permanent residence. He soon developed a passion for tree-cutting and spent countless hours in the bush during winter months, enjoying both the activity and camaraderie with neighbouring friends. In compliance with Jakes wishes, no formal funeral service will be held. We would like to thank Dr. Garth Campbell and the staff, especially Mary-Jane at the Beausejour Hospital for their compassionate and loving care of our husband and father. Our heartfelt thanks are with Wayne Gunning and Bill Babiuk, devoted friends whose support was unwavering during this time. In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to the Beausejour District Hospital, P.O. Box 1178, Beausejour, Manitoba, R0E 0C0.
