PAULINE KOHANSKI Peacefully, at age 87, on August 27, 2000, at St. Pauls Hospital in Vancouver, B.C. Pauline was predeceased by her husband Peter in 1995 and is survived by her son Tony. Mom was born, raised and educated in Winnipeg. From 1953 to her "retirement" at age 85, Mom operated McPhillips Hardware in Winnipegs North End. Although she always referred to Dad as the boss, everyone really knew who ran the place. Mom enjoyed her evening walks through the neighbourhood after hours, working her small garden, and her Sundays at Grand Beach. But her greatest enjoyment was her little shop. She got great joy in having customers drop in to shop, gossip, or just say Hi. She was especially happy when kids of the neighbourhood, fully grown and with children of their own, would drop in to see if she remembered them. When failing eyesight finally forced her to give up operating the business, she accepted the move to Vancouver with the same fiery spirit that she accepted all the challenges of life and was determined to find out what West Coast living was all about. Although Mom was in good spirits the last years of her life, the loss of her eyesight, and with it the loss of her independence, prayed heavily on her mind. But through it all, she kept her spirit up, seldom complained and enjoyed the life that was hers. In keeping with Moms wishes, cremation has taken place. Paulines remains will be interred at All Saints Cemetery alongside her husband Peter. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, September 7, at 7:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Paulines name to the CNIB. Cropo Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements, 586-8044.
