JOHN W. WAZNY October 21, 1913 - September 4, 2000 Our dad and grandpa, John W. Wazny passed away suddenly at the Concordia Hospital, Monday, September 4 in his 87th year. John was born and raised in Melrose, MB. In his 20s, he moved to Hamilton, ON where he found employment in the steel industry. There, he met Bernice Kwapisz. They were married on April 25, 1942. Shortly after, they moved back to Melrose where they farmed and raised their family. In 1967, they moved again, this time to Highland Glen where they enjoyed 30 years on their acreage. It was the setting for many happy family functions. Dad was employed at Canadian Pacific Railway for 25 years retiring in 1975. After a short period of retirement, dad got restless and got a job working as a security guard at Manitoba Hydro in Gillam, the Middlechurch Home and Gillis Quarries in Garson. For several years Dad was an active member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Tyndall Aerie No. 3386. Mom and dad travelled extensively after their retirement and dad vividly recalled their travels and loved to talk about their many adventures. He was an avid reader of newspapers and news magazines and still kept up with local news and world events. Dad moved to Selkirk three years ago and until very recently enjoyed his drives in the country and visits with old friends and neighbours. Dad was always happy to have his family around him and was very interested in all their accomplishments. He was so pleased just recently when all of his children and grandchildren were able to come home from near and far to be with him for a special occasion. Dad was predeceased by his parents (Albert and Maria) and siblings (Regina, Frances, Louis, Andrew, and Stanley) and in 1995 by his wife Bernice who he dearly missed. He is survived by his children, Carol (Walter), Kevin and Darren; Doug (Linda), Tanyss, Jodi and Tracy; Greg (Diane), Tiffany and Trevor; Lynda (Merv), Kelly and John (Lisa-Joy) Brian (Betty), Lindsay, Danielle, and Rebecca; and Debra and many nieces, nephews and extended family. Our family would like to thank all the special people who have helped to care for dad over the last few years, including the home care workers and nurses in Selkirk who visited him on a regular basis. Thank you also to the doctors and nurses in both Selkirk and Winnipeg who cared for him. If friends so desire, donations may be made to the Manitoba Lung Association or a charity of ones choice. Prayers will be said at Glen Eden Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 6 at 7:30 p.m. The funeral mass will be celebrated at Holy Redeemer Church, 264 Donwood Ave., Winnipeg at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 7. Johns grandchildren will serve as pallbearers. Arrangements entrusted to: GLEN EDEN FUNERAL HOME 4477 MAIN STREET 338-7111
