WILLIAM (BILL) HAWTHORN January 22, 1920 - September 4, 2000 It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the courageous passing of our beloved husband and father Bill, from this world to his eternal rest. He will be lovingly remembered by Pat, his wife of 55 years; sons, Wayne (Pat) and Neil (Shelley) grandchildren, Dale, Cory, Leigh-Ann, Chad and Kyle; brother Hugh (Toni) sister Mary Sellers, Pats family in England, numerous nieces and nephews and their families. Bill was predeceased by his parents, William and Anna and sister Ella Brown. Bill was born and lived in Whithorn, Scotland until his family immigrated to Canada in 1928 and settled in Raeburn, Man. There he farmed until enlisting in the army in 1940 at the age of 20. Bill served five years overseas for his country where he met his "sweetie" Pat. He settled with his war-bride in Trancona in 1946 where they raised their two boys. Bill was a dedicated, long-time employee of the Dominion Malting Co. until his retirement as elevator foreman in 1984. He was active with the Royal Canadian Legion Transcona Branch No. 7 as president for eight years, served on their executive for 22 years and was awarded with life membership in 1966. Above all, he was a devoted husband and father, who although was a bit of a "home-body", stayed close to those he loved most. Pop was a soft-spoken, gentle and kind man to his family, but especially to his grandchildren to whom he denied nothing. His special hug, kiss and pat on the back with "Bless you sweetie/son" will always remain with us. His presence will be missed in his favourite chair where he silently enjoyed the family "antics" in his garden where he was always "puttering" or under his umbrella "just looking". The family wishes to thank Dr. R. Guzman, support doctors and nursing staff of St. Boniface S.I.C.U. for their excellent care and unlimited support and Sr. Cathy for her prayer. Cremation has already taken place, a memorial service will be held Friday, September 8 at 1:00 p.m. at the Transcona Funeral Chapel, 1800 Day St. Reception to follow at the Royal Canadian Legion Transcona Branch No. 7. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bills memory can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 301 - 352 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB, R3B 2H8. Transcona Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements, 222-6677.
