MARILYNE GEORGINA KEELY Peacefully, surrounded by her beloved furry faces, on Tuesday, September 5, 2000, Marilyne departed to "the next place". Marilyne was predeceased by her mother, Nellie, her father, George, and her uncles, Roy and Eric Keely, and Louis Eyre. She will be fondly remembered by her aunties, Marie, Ann and Minnie, her only sister, Beverley, Sandra Harrison, and her close friends, Susan Cooke, and Geila Blanke. Marilyne was a graduate of Kelvin High School and the University of Winnipeg. In high school, in addition to being and avid learner, Marilyne had her own Hawaiian Steele Guitar Band. She was an accomplished jazz singer, performing in various nightclubs during the 60s and 70s. She was a strong advocate for social justice and reforms. Marilyne proudly served as CEO of WASO, Inc. since 1991 until her untimely passing. She was thrilled to be invited recently to be Vice-Chair of the Manitoba Horse Racing Commission. She displayed a lifelong passion for horses and the sport of racing. According to Marilynes wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 8, at 10:00 a.m. at Westwood Community Church, 401 Westwood Dr., followed by a reception there. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made in Marilynes memory to Winnipeg Humane Society, 5 Kent St., Winnipeg, MB R2L 1X3 or the Canadian Diabetes Association, Manitoba Division, 102-310 Broadway, Winnipeg, MB R3C 0S6.
