Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryA. NEIL BRIGGS April 22, 1916 - September 2, 2000 With sadness, we announce the passing of Neil Briggs on Saturday, September 2, 2000. Predeceased by sisters, Marion K. Holden, Frances Doidge, and Roberta Kerr. Neil is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Marjorie; son Bill (Pat) and daughters, Sally Bruce (Rorie) and Barbara Ateah (Michael) and grandchildren, Sara and Kevin Bruce and Chris and Kathryn Atea; also cousin Doris B. Saunders and nieces, Shirley McMillan, Pam LeBaldus, and Nancy Villeneuve. Born and raised in Winnipeg, Neil attended Kelvin High School, the University of Manitoba, then worked in the insurance business until his enlistment in the R.C.A.F. in 1940. Trained as a navigator/observer in the Coastal Command, he flew on many missions over the North Sea. On his last scheduled mission, the plane was shot down, and he was held as a P.O.W. for three years. On his return to Canada in 1945, he married his sweetheart, Marjorie Gibson and joined his father-in-law in the textile agency business. Dad was an avid sports fan, a supporter of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and past president of River Heights Community Centre. Together with Mom, they formed a formidable Bridge team and played for many years with their dear friends. In addition to his devotion to Marjorie, his pride in his children, he cherished time spent at the family cottage in Ponemah. More recently, Dad has enjoyed Lions Place, friends and family, and most importantly his precious visits with Marjorie at the Convalescent Home. In respect of Dads wishes, cremation has taken place and friends and family are invited to gather at the home of his daughter, Sally Bruce, 737 Montrose St. on Friday, September 8, 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Donations may be made in Neils memory to Lions Place, 610 Portage Ave. R3C 0G5.
