STEWART PRESTON BROWN March 8, 1929 - September 6, 2000 Stewart Brown, a longtime resident of Berry Street, succumbed to cancer, Wednesday, September 6, 2000, at the Riverview Health Centre, Winnipeg, Man. In January of 1993, when his health problem was diagnosed as the "Big C," he prophesied his obitbulkloaduary would either begin with "after a valiant struggle" or "following a lengthy battle" - each applies. "Mr. B." was born March 8, 1929, at Baldur, Man., to Frank and Edna (nee Breault) Brown who predeceased him in 1983 and 1985 respectively. Family members who survive include his sister Ida and husband Don Sanderson of Holland, Man.; his niece Beth and husband Brian Speiss and their son Trevor of Cartier, Man.; his nephew Bob Sanderson and his wife Kathy of Holland; his aunt Anna Breault of Baldur and 16 first cousins scattered across the Dominion from Charlottetown to Vancouver. Grateful thanks we extend to the caring staff of the Salisbury House, 1860 Ellice Ave., Stewarts "home away from home" for 40 years; to his friends who, as his health failed, ran errands and drove him to appointments; to Dr. Lorne Brandes of the Manitoba Cancer Clinic for his professional expertise and last but not least, to the caregivers at Riverview who kept him as comfortable as possible the week he spent there. The highlight of Stewarts retirement was the surprise 70th birthday in March of 1999, planned by his former colleagues at Revenue Canada. Rev. Robert Campbell will conduct a service of remembrance on Saturday, September 9, at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., Winnipeg. A reception will be held in the Chapel Lawn Reception Centre following the service. A graveside service will be held on Monday, September 11, at 11:00 a.m. at the Baldur Cemetery, Baldur, Man., with Rev. Irene Onuch Penhale officiating. A reception will follow at the Baldur Drop In Centre. A couple of nights before he died, Stewart wondered how he could raise money for cancer research, and so in lieu of flowers or cards, donations to Cancer Research in his memory will be appreciated. Please send your contributions to the Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, Man., R3C 2B7. Jamieson Funeral Service of Baldur-Glenboro in care of arrangements. 1-204-827-2480.
