NICHOLAS STAVECHNY November 26, 1916 - September 5, 2000 Peacefully, after a lengthy illness, on Tuesday, September 5, 2000, Nicholas Stavechny passed away at the St. Boniface Hospital. Nicholas will be sadly missed by his devoted wife of 61 years, Idella; daughter Lorraine (Neil) McTavish; son Brian (Bernadette) Stavechny; grandchildren, Neil (Lisa), Bill (Gisela), Bruce and Laura McTavish, Jean-Nicholas and Arwin; great-granddaughters, Jinty, Briagha and Aliya, also numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was predeceased by his sister Ann Orbell and brother Michael (Mack). Nicholas was born and educated in Angusville, MB. He lived most of his life in Winnipeg. In 1946 he started and operated Monarch Realty as a realtor and builder for over 30 years. He was a member of the Rossmere Golf and Country Club and enjoyed curling at many of the clubs in Winnipeg. He was a member of The Sons of Ukrainian Pioneers and always looked forward to their monthly luncheons. Nick and Idella spent many winters in warmer locations like Hawaii and Florida. Nicholas was one of the founders of St. Josaphat Ukrainian Catholic Church. Prayers will be said on Sunday evening, September 10 at 7:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. at Luxton Avenue. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Monday, September 11, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Josaphat Church, 590 Alverstone at Burnell with Rev. Fr. Ihor Royik officiating. Interment will follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. The family extends deep appreciation to the staff of the Palliative Care Unit, the 5th and 6th Floor staff, Dr. Kvern, and the Winnipeg Regional Heath Authority-Homecare Service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Nicks memory to CancerCare Manitoba, 100 Olivia St., Wpg., R3E 0Z9, Canadian Diabetes Assoc., Man. Division, 102-310 Broadway, Wpg., R3C 0S6 or The Palliative Care Ward, 409 Tache Ave., Wpg., R2H 0A6. Cropo Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements 586-8044.
