NELLIE LEATHERDALE Peacefully, on Friday, September 8, 2000 at The Tabor Home in Morden, Manitoba, Nellie Leatherdale, in her 98th year. Nellie Leatherdale was born November 28, 1903 to Elias Leatherdale and Mary McKinley Ramage on the family farm seven miles north of Morden, and lived most of her life there. After the deaths of her parents and the marriages of her younger brother and sister, Nellie, her sister Eva and her brother Bill made their home together for the rest of their lives, proudly celebrating the farms centennial in 1982. Throughout her long life, Nellie remained devoted to her family. She loved to sew, to embroider, to crochet, to quilt and create hundreds of heirloom pieces. She enjoyed flowers, and was a member of the Horticultural Society, as well as of the Eastern Star Lodge. She was sustained by her love of music and by her deep religious faith; she was organist for Clegg United Church, and she played her own piano until she moved to the Tabor Apartments in 1994. Nellie was predeceased by her half-brother Joe and her half-sister Ella, her older sister Eva, and by brothers, Jim, Harry, Nelson, Bill and Walter. She is survived by her sister-in-law Alice Leatherdale of Darlingford, her younger sister Minnie Weber of Waterloo, Ontario, her younger brother and his wife, Russell and Kay Leatherdale of Morden, as well as by many nieces and nephews, great and great-great. A graveside service will be held on Monday, September 11 at 3:00 p.m. at Hillside Cemetery, Morden, with Rev. Morris Vincent officiating, and interment in the Leatherdale family plot. A reception will follow the graveside service at Doyles Funeral Chapel in Morden. Doyles Funeral Chapel of Morden in care of arrangements, 204-822-2045.
