CHARLES DOUGLAS HANNA (DOUG HANNA) After a lengthy illness, Doug passed away quietly on Tuesday, September 5, 2000, at the Dr. Gendreau Personal Care Home, with his family at his side. He will be sadly missed by his wife Eva and his four daughters, Sharon (Jim) Leslie, Marion (Marcel) Boulbria, Heather (Marvin) Roos and Deanie (Maureen) (Greg) Kosa. There are eight grandchildren, Shannon, Tracy, Michael, Cindy, Dwayne, B.J., Jeff and Christen; three great-grandchildren, Kelsey, Joshua and Jordan; his brothers, Lloyd (Roberta), Jack (Alice), Bill (Angie) his sisters, Ruby Hanna, Betty (Stan) Stewart; his brother-in-law Clifford (Joyce) McGhie. Doug was predeceased by his parents Wesley and Claire Hanna; his brothers, Murray and Robert in infancy. Doug was born on February 6, 1926, at Gladstone, Man. He worked for many years in the creamery business, receiving many awards. He joined the infantry army on March 2, 1944. Prior to enlisting in the army, he had been in the militia. In 1945 Doug married Eva McGhie, and their marriage was blessed with four daughters. In 1946 after finishing his dairy course at the University of Manitoba, Doug and Eva moved to Manitou where they lived for 14 years. They then moved to Ste. Rose du Lac where Doug managed the creamery until a severe illness in 1973. Following his recovery, but yet facing many health problems, Doug worked for a short time at the Dr. Gendreau Personal Care Home. From 1978 to 1991, Doug worked as the caretaker at the R.C.M.P. Barracks. In 1967, Doug was appointed Justice of the Peace, and in 1981 became a magistrate until 1984. At that time, he received a Meritorious Service Award from the Government of Manitoba in recognition of 17 years of loyal and devoted service. In his early years in Manitou, Doug was a chartered member of the Kinsmen Club, and was a past master of the Masonic Lodge. Doug was also very proud to have been part of establishing the United Church in Ste. Rose du Lac. He will be sadly missed. Funeral service for Doug was held on Friday, September 8, at 10:00 a.m. from the Ste. Rose de Lima Roman Catholic Church. Mr. Roy Fordyce officiated with the interment following in the Gladstone Cemetery. Members of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #232, Ste. Rose du Lac, formed the honour guard. Active pallbearers were his sons-in-law, Jim, Marcel, Marvin and his grandchildren, Shannon, Michael and Jeff. Honorary pallbearers were his son-in-law Greg; his granddaughters, Tracy, Cindy and Christen and grandsons, Dwayne and B.J. Should friends so desire, donations may be made in memory of Doug to the Dr. Gendreau Personal Care Home, P.O. Box 420, Ste. Rose du Lac, Man., R0L 1S0. Ste. Rose Memorial Chapel, Ste. Rose du Lac, Man., had care of arrangements. (204) 447-2444.
