Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryRUTH HARRIS GRANT Ruth passed away at the Health Sciences Centre on Wednesday, September 6, 2000. She was 78 years of age. She was predeceased by her father, Mark Harris and by her mother Annette Harris, by her brothers Leo and Norman Harris and by her sister Dorothy Sarchuk. She is survived by her brother Harry and sister-in-law Jenny of Ottawa, Ont.; by her brother-in-law Carl Sarchuk and sister-in-law Vivian and by numerous nephews and nieces. Ruth was a prolific and well-known artist, who was stimulated by her love of nature, music and reading. She was devoted to the teaching of art to students who were visually, mentally or physically challenged. She was the owner of the Aurora Art Studio. Ruth was one of the original members of the Winnipeg Ballet Company (now the Royal Winnipeg Ballet Company) and was active in many other artistic and cultural organizations. In her youth she enjoyed participating in almost all sports activities. She attended the University of Manitoba and the University of Winnipeg and turned her talents to teaching art. Ruth is survived by her two sons, Richard and Les whom she nurtured and cared for with love and devotion and to whom she was first and foremost a mother who was encouraging, caring and honest and whose most often expressed hope was that she would leave this legacy to the beloved sons. A graveside service was held at the Shaarey Zedek Cemetery by Rabbi Cantor of the Shaarey Zedek Synagogue, on Friday, September 8. In lieu of flowers a donation to the Jewish Child and Family Service, the Salvation Army of Winnipeg, the Humane Society of Winnipeg or to the charity of ones choice, would be appreciated.
