ROBERT ALEXANDER SCOBEL On Wednesday, 13 September 2000 after a brief illness, Dad passed away at Seven Oaks Hospital. Left to mourn his passing are daughter Maureen (Neil) Lachaine and son Bob (Penny) Scobel; grandchildren, Derek, Ryan, Greg (Lisa), and Pam (Robert) great-grandchildren, Aaron, Cheyenne, Kendall and Kyle. Dad was predeceased by his loving wife of 51 years, Helen, in May 1992. Dad was born on July 2, 1919 in Rivers, Man. and moved to Winnipeg as a boy. Dad started working for the CNR as a teenager and retired after over 40 years of service. Dads career was interrupted from 1942 to 1945 when he joined the Royal Canadian Navy. He achieved the rank of ERA Third Class and served on the destroyer HMS Haida, escorting convoys in the North Atlantic. Some of Dads best times were spent with Helen and his grandchildren at their home near Dugald, and at their cabin at Falcon Lake. He was a long time member of Pine Ridge Golf Club, loved golf and curling and took great joy in the "Scobel Open" golf tournament. The family would like to thank the nursing staff on 4U1 and 3U4, especially Joanne Billson R.N., for their excellent and compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations can be made to Cancer Care Manitoba, 100 Olivia St. Wpg R3E 0V9 or the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 301-352 Donald St., Wpg MB R3B 2H8.
