NORMAN STODGELL Peacefully, on September 14, 2000, with family by his side, Norman Stodgell passed away at Percy Moore Hospital, of Hodgson, Man., after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was born on April 21, 1924, at Fisherton, Man. Norman is survived, and sadly missed, by his wife Kathleen, his children (youngest) Joy Brown of Winnipeg, (friend Tim)(granddaughters: Janelle and Jenna) Sherry Henkel of Stonewall, Man.(Grandchildren: Brandon, Justin, Kevin and Kelsey) Keith Stodgell of Arborg, Man.(granddaughter: Karli) Doug Stodgell of Kelowna, BC (Sandy, grandsons: Trevor and Curtis) Ken Stodgell of Winnipeg, (grandsons: Kevin and Ryan) and two great-grandsons Tyler and Matthew. He also leaves to mourn his mother-in-law, Doris Hallett of Winnipeg; sisters-in-law, Margaret Stodgell of Edmonton; Iva Stodgell of Woodlands; Dorothy Pratt of Brandon; brothers-in-law Allan Hallett of Winnipeg (Linda), Barry Hallett (Linda) and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Norman was predeceased by his parents Mary and Charles, his brother Victor, brothers Stanley, Garnet and Cyril in the Second World War, Roy, Lloyd and sister Frieda (Henry). Normon enlisted with the PPCLI and served overseas until his discharge in 1945. While stationed in Holland he was wounded in action on the front lines. After discharge, Norman returned to the home farm in Fisherton where he farmed for many years. He later moved to Winnipeg where he was employed with Subterranean Construction for 24 years, all the while still continuing to farm. Upon his retirement he returned to the farm where he resided until his passing. Norman was a very dedicated life member of Legion #158, of Hodgson, Man., where he served on the executive for many years. Norman was an active committee member who was involved in compiling information for the Veterans history book which was printed in 1990. Normans favourite pastimes were playing bingo, cards and cribbage. He enjoyed his children and grandchildren coming to the farm to visit and play cards. Special thanks to Dr. Moller, Dr. ANdreas, nurses and all the staff at Percy Moore Hospital, Hodgson, MB, for being so caring and understanding and making his last days as comfortable as possible. Dad, may you finally get the peace you deserve. Miss you lots and love you always. Prayers will be held on Sunday, September 17 at 7:00 p.m. at the Fisher Funeral Home, Fisher Branch, MB. Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 18, at 1:00 p.m., also at the Funeral Home with Rev. Wesley Barrett officiating.
