RICHARD CHARTRAND Surrounded and comforted by family and friends, Rick Alan Chartrand passed away on Thursday September 14, 2000, at the Health Science Centre in Winnipeg, Man. Richard is survived by his wife Rita; son Brent (Melody) and grandson Marc of Thompson Man.; mother Irene of Carberry Man.; father Mike of Lundar Man.; brother Evan (Pat and children, Jaicee, Laura and Mitchel) of Carberry; brother Chris (Sheila and children, Travis and Nicole) of Estevan, Sask. He will be greatly missed by his mother-in-law Myrtle Pitre (Bill Bidochka) of Thompson; sister-in-law Arlene Ferguson (Dale and children, Troy and Terry) of Thompson; brother-in-law Jerry Pitre (Christine and children, Jennifer and Julia) of Thompson; brother-in-law David Pitre (Yvonne and children, Becky, Leonard, Wendy, Sandra) of Cross Lake, Man., and many other relatives and close friends. Rick was born in Edmonton Alta., April 17, 1958. His father was in the services and Rick spent five years in Edmonton, three years in Germany, three years in New Brunswick and three years in Halifax. The family moved to Manitoba when Rick was in his teens. He learned his love for mechanics on his grandfather Evans farm, working alongside his grandfather and uncle. He obtained his first mechanical certification with honours from Assiniboine Community College in Brandon. He came to Thompson in 1979 and obtained a job with Three Way Motors. He later worked for the Department of Highways. During this time he continued with his education and obtained his second ticket for Heavy Duty Mechanic. He worked for INCO for the past ten years. Rick continued to excel and further develop in his profession. He was promoted to Shops Maintenance Supervisor and worked there until now. Rick was known for his patience and his mechanical aptitude. His sense of humour was known to all, especially when it came to practical jokes, they normally ended with his special snicker. He will be forever remembered and loved in the hearts of all. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, September 20, at 2:00 p.m. in the St. Lawrence Roman Catholic Church, 114 Cree Rd., Thompson, Man., with Rev. Leslie King officiating. Cremation has taken place. Donations can be made in his memory to the Manitoba Lung Association at 629 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, Man., R3A 1P6. Boardman Funeral Home in care of arrangements.
