GERALD K. BEAR 1946 - 2000 It is with extreme sadness that we inform you on the sudden passing of Gerald Bear, aged 54 years of Selkirk, on Sunday, September 17, 2000 at his residence. Left to cherish his memory is his loving and caring wife Maria and children, Laura and Morgan. He was predeceased by his father Sam Bear and mother-in-law Olla Stefanson. Also left surviving is his mother Elsie Bear, brothers, Doug (Nettie), Gary Marlowe (Lisa), sister Audrey, father-in-law Stefan Stefanson, sister-in-law Lorna (Terry), brothers-in-law, Ernest (Claire), Valdimar and Eric (Barb) and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Gerald had been employed at the Selkirk Mental Health Center for 35 years. He enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing and was a member of the Selkirk Game and Fish Association for ten years. Gerry also enjoyed cooking and baking for which he was well known. Gerry had many friends of all ages and from all walks of life. He was a good friend to all and will be sadly missed by family and friends. Unfortunately, for the past four years he has been on Dialysis in Winnipeg and then recently in the new Selkirk Dialysis Unit. Special thanks to Doctors Embel, Koulack, Wozny, Demsas and Penner and all the nursing staff in both units. The support given by friends and family was overwhelming and truly appreciated. Prayers will be said on Wednesday (tonight) at 7:00 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Selkirk. Cremation will follow and a Service of Remembrance will be held on Thursday, September 21 at 2:00 p.m. in the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Selkirk with Pastor Terry Throndson and Rev. Peter Cain officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Eddie Dear, Wayne Adams, Chico Hourie, Ron Inman, George Baty, Jimmy Mercer, Ted Wozny, Berry Grant, Craig Taylor, Ralph Hale and Sylvio Carriere. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Gerrys memory to the Selkirk Dialysis Unit, Selkirk General Hospital, P.O. Box 5000, Selkirk R1A 2M2.
