ERNEST M. WEBB Suddenly and peacefully at home on September 18, 2000. Ernie was born December 28, 1924 at Stonewall, the son of Jack and Ruby Webb and spent his entire life in the Stonewall district except for service in the R.C.A.F. in 1943 to 1945. He is survived by Donna, his wife of 43 years; three sons, Bruce, Allan and David; his daughter Barbara (Grant Smith) and grandchildren Michael and Carrie. He is also survived by his close-knit family of sisters, Jean Essex, Mona Riley, Marjorie Cieslar (Paul), Marlene Taylor (Jim) and brother Jack (Gwen) as well as numerous nieces and nephews and his parents-in-law Bruce and Ruby Hogg. He was predeceased by his parents, younger sister Lorraine and brothers-in-law George Essex and Howard Riley. After the war he worked briefly in the Stonewall quarries before attending the Winnipeg School of Art and joining the advertising department of Winnipeg Supply and Fuel Co. In 1957 he began work for Marshall Wells Hardware where he was the advertising manager for many years until his retirement in 1985. Before and after his retirement, Ernie was active in the affairs of his community. He was a generous donor of both time and talent spending many hours each week working for the Interlake Food Bank and the Stonewall Christmas Cheer Board for which he restored and donated bicycles. He was a mainstay of the community band as an organizer and clarinet player and a volunteer with the Rockwood Festival of the Arts. He was proud of his donation of over 75 units of blood to the Red Cross and his involvement in the Quarry Toastmasters. Many young people in Stonewall will remember him teaching them to skate. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Stonewall Band Boosters, Interlake Food Bank or Stonewall Christmas Cheer Board. A celebration of his life in the community will be held at a later date. MacKenzie Funeral Home, Stonewall, in care of arrangements.
