BEDA BIRNIE (nee BOQUIST) It is with sadness that we announce the sudden death of Beda Birnie after a brief illness at the Grace General Hospital at the age of 84 years. Beda will be sadly missed by her husband John Birnie; brothers, Algot Boquist of Mission, BC, Hjalmar Boquist of Westlock AB and Gerda Ducharme of Richmond BC, numerous nieces and nephews including Norma and Gordon Patterson, formerly of Winnipeg. She was predeceased by her brothers, John, Emil and Gus Boquist; sisters, Lily Patterson, Hilder Hughes and Jenny Curran. Beda was born in Inwood, MB to Paulina and John Boquist. She was third youngest of ten children and was raised on the family farm near Inwood (Norris Lake area). As a teenager, she began working as a waitress, then moved on to become manager of Moores Restaurant in downtown Winnipeg for over 30 years. Beda was always there for friends and family whenever needed and had a wonderful positive outlook on life. Beda was the classic blond, blue eyed, Swedish beauty complimented with her super intelligence. She married her handsome prince John Birnie and they have enjoyed a very happy 43 years together. Beda and John enjoyed curling at the Thistle Curling Club for many years and had made many curling friends. John is presently gravely ill and is expected to soon join Beda once again. A Celebration of Beda and Johns life together will be held on Thursday, September 21, at 1:00 p.m. in the Leatherdale Gardiner Funeral Chapel, 1858 Portage Avenue.
