PETER PAUL KUPCHIK Peacefully, at the Selkirk General Hospital on Sunday, September 17, 2000, at the age of 87 years. He will be forever remembered by Mary, his wife of 60 years; children, Leon (Verna), Lawrence, Evelyn and Darwin (Rachelle) his grandchildren, Darrell (Leanne), Trina (Alan), Carol (Lorne), Lawrence, Glen, Joshua, Tanner and Tegan; and great-grandchildren, Samuel, Sara and Jordan. He will also be sadly missed by his brothers and sisters, Frank (Mary), Mike (Gladys), Anne (Sam) Rapko, Rose (Stan) Ludwig and Lena (Werner) Meager. He was predeceased by his parents Wasyl Kupchik and Mary Lazaruk; brothers, John (Phyllis) and Alec (Mary) and grandson Sheldon Kupchik. Peter was born in Fort Francis, Ontario on June 20, 1913 and moved to Gonor, Manitoba as a child, where he attended Gonor School. Difficult times forced him to begin working at an early age, which he gladly did to help support his family. Fishing, farming and working at lumber camps are just some of the jobs he took on. He and Mary (Homeniski) were married on October 28, 1939 and raised their family in the East Selkirk area. The family moved to Selkirk in 1960 where Peter continued to work at the Manitoba Rolling Mills, which he retired from in 1977 after 26 years of service. Peter was a hard working, caring man, whose door was always open and coffee was always hot for anyone who came to visit. All he had, he would willingly give, never asking anything in return. He delighted in the simple pleasures of life and looked forward to each new day, despite what hardships it might bring. His zest for life will live on in the eyes of the grandchildren he leaves behind. His love will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him. A viewing and visitation will be held on Tuesday (tonight), September 19 from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Selkirk. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 20 at 2:00 p.m., also in the chapel, with a viewing one half hour prior to service, with Rev. John Hogerwaard officiating. Interment to follow in the St. Clements Cemetery. His pallbearers will be Darrell, Ronald, Randy and Larry Kupchik, Lawrence LeClerc and William Campbell. Peter left this world just as he lived in it, at peace and with dignity. We send him back to God now, with grateful, loving tears. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk, in care of arrangements.
