Lillian was born on November 23, 1923, in Arbakka, Man., and grew up on the family farm until the age of 14, when she left home and moved to Winnipeg. She was employed as a domestic until joining the Navy. She met and married Ben in 1949 in Toronto where their children were also born. As a family they moved to Vancouver for a few years until finally settling back home in Winnipeg. Lillian was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and her family was the most important thing in life to her. In healthier times, Mom enjoyed gardening, sometimes taking care of as many as four at a time, her retreats to cottages at Grand Beach and Gull Lake and family get-togethers. Mom will be fondly remembered as having a zest for life, a wonderful sense of humour and a kind word for all. She overcame many obstacles in this life with the strength and stamina that few could hope for. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her. Prayers will be held Friday, September 22 (tonight), at 7:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, September 23, at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Ghost Roman Catholic Church, 341 Selkirk Ave., with an Oblate Father officiating. Interment will follow in Holy Family Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jason and Christopher Sleva, Barry and Richard Chmilowsky, Jeff Harasym and Larry Sleva.
