Date of Passing: Sep 23, 2000
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryALBERT (BERT) ERNEST MEADE Peacefully, on Saturday September 23, 2000 passed away at the Health Sciences Centre, at the age of 77 years. Bert is survived by his sons, Greg (Michelle) and Jeff (Donna) and grandchildren, Lisa, Brett, Laura, and Tyler. He is also survived by his sister Lillian LeBlanc; his niece Ruth Kartes and family and nephews, David (Diane) Nichols and family and Bill LeBlance (Anne) and family. Bert was predeceased by his wife Gladys; his parents, Albert and Nellie Meade and sisters, Betty Norris and Nellie Nichols. Dad was born and raised in Winnipeg, attending John M King School and Daniel MacIntyre Collegiate. During his youth he sang in the Holy Trinity Anglican Church Youth Choir, spent his summers at the family cottage at Brereton Lake and his winters on a hockey rink. Dad played junior hockey with the Winnipeg Monarchs and at eighteen years of age was invited by Jack Adams of the Detroit Red Wings to begin his professional career. A highlight for dad was the opportunity to play for the legendary Eddie Shore. Dads hockey career was interrupted by the Second World War and in January 1943, dad joined the Royal Canadian Navy. Upon his discharge he entered the University of Manitoba and in 1950 graduated with a Degree in Mechanical Engineering, married "Gladie" and began a long and illustrious career with the Bailey Meter Company. Upon dads retirement from Bailey, dad joined Winnipeg Hydro. Dad was a devoted family man and throughout his life he maintained his passion for sports, the outdoors and his cottage at Brereton Lake. In recent years he cherished the opportunity to participate and share in the lives of his grandchildren. Dad had many friends, young and old, and the memories of their hunting and fishing trips, golf games and discussions contributed greatly to his love of life. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, September 28 at 1:00 p.m. in Thomson Funeral Chapels, 669 Broadway. The family expresses our sincere thanks to the staff of the neurology department at the Health Sciences Centre, and to Dr. D. Fewer and Dr. J. Johnson for their compassion and care. In lieu of flowers, donations in dads memory may be made to a charity of ones choice. THOMSON FUNERAL CHAPELS 783-7211
