BEATRICE LOUISE MATHERS (nee THORSCH) Peacefully, on Saturday, September 23, at the age of 72, Beatrice Mathers passed away at the St. Boniface General Hospital. Bea was born in Berlin, Germany. She emigrated to Minneapolis, Minnesota as a young girl. She attended Vassar College and later married Bill Mathers. They lived in Deep River, Ontario until 1964, when they moved to Pinawa, Manitoba. Bea was predeceased by her sister Danielle in 1983; husband Bill in 1991; and is survived by daughter Heather of Comox, B.C.; sons Frank of Vancouver, B.C., Chris of Kitchener, Ontario, Paul of Winnipeg; and beloved granddaughter Julia of Kitchener. Bea loved people and learning about their lives. She liked to share a laugh and had a great sense of humour. She was caring and generous and sacrificed much for others, especially her family. Bea fought hard in recent years against her increasingly difficult health problems. Through it all, with undefeatable spirit, she complained little and maintained her independence to the end. Her strength and love of life were an inspiration to those who knew her, and we will miss her. Beas family would like to express their sincere thanks to the staff of the St. Boniface Hospital dialysis unit for their excellent care for the last six years. We are also grateful for the excellent care she received from the St. Boniface emergency department, and 5B medicine and palliative care wards. Donations may be made in Beas memory to St. Boniface General Hospital Research Foundation, Nephrology/Kidney Disease Program, 409 Tache Ave., Winnipeg, MB, R2H 2A6. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, September 27 at 5:30 p.m. at the Pavilion in Assiniboine Park, in the 2nd Floor Gallery. For further inquiries call 287-8023. P. COUTU & CO.
