Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryFREDRICK POLET SR. "FRED" Peacefully after a brief but dignified illness our dad, companion, son, brother, uncle and friend to many passed away. Dad was born April 27, 1934 and lived 66 wonderful years. He left us on a sunny Saturday afternoon, September 23, 2000. Dad was born in Steins, Friesland, immigrated to Canada in 1949. In 1954 dad drove to Kenora, Ont. and obtained his professional truck drivers license (not available in Manitoba) and has used it ever since. The road was dads home away from home. He drove for many companies over his career with the longest being Scott National (Scott Fruit). During those years, Dad was able to become a proud owner of his own "rig". He continued to drive for other companies but during the last several years was driving with and for his son Peter. Dad had plenty of highway stories to entertain his children and his nine grandchildren. Dads legacy can be described as a man with a zest for life and he lived it. He was predeceased by our Mom Irene, January 1983; his second wife Roma, October 1995; his brother Pete; sister-in-law Joyce and his dad Paka in 1969. He now leaves behind his best friend Elizabeth Polonyi; his children, son Peter, Kathy, children, Ken, Kelly and Irene, daughter Arlene, Rick, children, Jen, Jeff, Greg and Brad, son Fred Jr. Kristy and children, Breanna and Ryan. Also left behind a large supportive family, mother Evelyn; brothers, Tom and Sara, Jim and Janet, Stuart and Jane, Bert and Jean, Klaas and Lorraine; sisters, Louella and Allan and Pearl and Carl. Along with this family come a multitude of nieces and nephews. Last but certainly not least were Dads many friendships he struck up over the years. Dads funeral will be held Tuesday, September 26 at Covenant Christian Reformed Church, 653 Knowles Ave. with Rev. C. Bishop officiating. Service at 12:30 p.m. with viewing one-half hour prior to service. Pallbearers are George, Murray and Allan Boonstra, Ed Halischuk, Pete Pastoor, Calvin and Jason Polet. Honorary pallbearers are all dads trucking "buddies". Dads requested motto which he wants you all to remember was: "If you ever want to give something away, give away your smile - its free". Flowers gratefully declined, donations may be made to Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 2B7. GREEN ACRES FUNERAL CHAPEL 222-3241
