HELEN DIAMOND (nee GORDON) It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Helen Diamond on Friday, September 22, 2000. Helen is survived by her brothers, Lou Gordon (Clarice, deceased; Joan), Ralph Gordon (Ethel) nephews and nieces, Sherwin (Nancy), Kayla (Art), Marshall (Amy), Lyle (Rosalie), Avrum (Leona), Donna; great-nephews and nieces, Avril, Aaron, Carly, Adam, Cody, Clarice, Cloe, Ezra. She was born in Winnipeg, May l4, l920. She was predeceased by her mother and father Nettie and Sam Gordon. When she was married to Al Diamond she lived in Brandon, Edmonton; after separation she moved back to Winnipeg for the rest of her life. As a young woman, Helen was a hairdresser at the Mogle Sisters on Redwood and Main. In later years she was a manicurist at various salons and also sold ladies fashions. Her zest for living and warm personality endeared her to many friends and relatives. She always remembered family birthdays with a card and a lottery ticket. (No one won big.) She was fun-loving, loved to dance, non-judgemental and gave unconditional love. She loved playing the piano sometimes as a volunteer. "Begin the Begine" and "Strangers in the Night" were her favourites. She still could remember some songs when she was in the Sharon Home. She was a Shadchan (Matchmaker) to many marriages. Member of Pioneer Woman and other organizations. A graveside service was held on Sunday, September 24 at the Rosh Pina Cemetery, with Rabbi Neal Rose and Cantor Smolack officiating. Pallbearers were Art Maister, Ken Maister, Avrum Gordon, Al Kogan, Dr. Alan Schweid, Paul Winestock. We would like to thank the outstanding staff of the Sharon Home who cared for her for many years particularly the 3A ward. Special thanks to caregivers, especially Aurelia who was with her at the end, Vera, Sonia and many others for their wonderful care. Heartfelt thanks to Dr. Pearlman, Dr Lebedin. Shiva at 11 Avon Gate. Donations may be made to the Winnipeg Jewish Theatre (477-7515), or charity of your choice. We will always remember Helens loving smile she had for everyone.
