ROBERT JOHN CROOKSHANKS On Tuesday, September 26, 2000 Bert Crookshanks, aged 91 years of Stonewall, Manitoba passed away peacefully at home. He was born December 24, 1908 and lived and farmed in Stonewall all of his life. He married Edith Leech in 1948 and together they raised two children, Doug and Jean. Berts life revolved around his farm, family and community. He lived on the family farm east of town from 1908 to 1994 at which time he moved into Lions Manor. Always active and having many interests, Bert travelled extensively throughout his retirement years and became an avid golfer. Community involvement included the Independent Order of Oddfellows which he joined in 1948 and the Stonewall United Church. Bert was very proud of his children and grandchildren and travelled many miles to be with them on special occasions. Bert was always willing to assist others and will be very much missed by all who knew him. Bert was predeceased by his wife Edith in 1987. Left to mourn his loss are son Doug and (Laura) of Brandon; daughter Jean (Terry Botterill) of Sherwood Park, AB; four grandchildren John and Jennifer Crookshanks, Brian and Janet Botterill. He is also survived by three sisters Marion Grist of Winnipeg, Irene Yule of Stonewall and Doris Croy of St. Catherines, Ont. as well as many nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by one sister Claire Denovan. Friends may call from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m., Thursday, September 28 at the MacKenzie Funeral Chapel, Stonewall. Funeral Service will be held on Friday, September 29 at 2:00 p.m. in the Stonewall United Church. Rev. Mary Best will officiate and interment will follow in the Stonewall Cemetery. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to the Stonewall United Church or to a charity on ones choice. MacKenzie Funeral Home, Stonewall in care of the arrangements.
