LOUIS AWANNEEGAABO MYRAN, SR. After a courageous battle with diabetes, Louis Awanneegaabo Myran (Sr.) of the Long Plain First Nation left on his journey to the spirit world. Wake service will be held at the Elders Lodge, Long Plain, on Wednesday, September 27. Traditional funeral service will be held at the Elders Lodge on Thursday, September 28 at 2:00 p.m. with Elder Alfred Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the Myran-Meeches Cemetery, Long Plain. Louis leaves to mourn his passing his lifelong partner of 62 years, Louisa; brother Bruce; sisters, Eva and Christina; brother-in-law Joe Richard; sons, Leslie (Phyllis), Thomas (Germaine), Louis, Jr. (Shirley), Maurice (Gwen), Dennis and Daryl (Delores) daughters, Dorothy (Ralph), Donna (Art) and Karen (Mark). Dad was predeceased by his father Tommy Dauphin Myerion; mother Mary Jane Myerion (nee Cameron) brothers, Dave and Clarence Myerion; sister Clara Paul; son Gordon Clayton and infant daughter Marlene. Dad had many relatives at the Swan Lake First Nation, Roseau River First Nation, Dakota Plains First Nation and the United States. Dad was a strong believer and follower of the traditional ways of our people. He was a member of the Medewin and the Grass Dance society and thus, enjoyed attending powwows all over Manitoba, Saskatchewan and the United States. He looked forward to meeting all his friends and relatives at these events. Before his illness took its toll, he loved to putter around outside, fixing up cars, trucks and more importantly, maintaining his collection of tractors. "Grandpa Moon" was totally devoted to his family, especially to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; always checking to make sure they were all safe and sound, always sharing a chuckle with each and every one of them. The display of hundreds of Christmas lights was meant to delight his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Grandpa would be saying to us, "Dont cry, I am free of pain now. I have entrusted my spirit to the Creator and He will keep me safe until you get here." He will be sadly missed, however, fondly remembered in spirit by his immediate family, numerous nieces, nephews, 26 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren and his many friends and relatives in the four directions.
