IRENE GUDLAUG LILJA HODGSON 1922 - 2000 Irene passed away peacefully with her family at her side, on September 25, 2000. She was predeceased by her parents, Runa and Steffan Eyjolfson and her husband, Thomas Hodgson, whom she married in 1941. Irene was born in Riverton, Man. on August 6, 1922. She started her 38 year teaching career in a one-room school in Geysir, travelling to and fro in a horse drawn sled. In her later years she enjoyed teaching English as a second language to immigrant children. Mom loved travel, all her good friends and reading a good novel. She had a generous and unselfish spirit, often going out of her way to help those in need. Gran loved her grandchildren and great-grandbabies dearly. Leaving to mourn her passing are her children, Wayne (Wilma), Linda (Brian) Ritchie and grandchildren, Merion, Caleb (Kathy), Delaney, Saxon (James) Smith, Travis (Beth), Kristjan; and great-grandbabies, Brody and Jaedyn Smith and Alijah Hodgson; siblings, Jona Eyjolfson, Val Taylor, Wally Eyjolfson, Barbara Magnusson, Helen Sigurdson and numerous nieces and nephews. True to her nature, Mom has donated her body to medical research and at her request a private family memorial will be held. However we hope all her friends will include her in their prayers. Our heartfelt thanks are extended to her steadfast friends, Lil, Marion and the two Marys. Should friends desire, a donation to the Canadian Diabetes Association would be greatly appreciated.
